District is an important level in the administrative system of Bangladesh. A district was formed with several upazilas. Administrative jurisdiction of a division of a district.
There are currently 64 districts of 8 divisions of Bangladesh. During the establishment of Bangladesh in 1971, the number of districts was 20. President Ershad introduced the process of upgradation of the sub-divisions in the district.
During the establishment of Pakistan in 1947, the number of districts of East Pakistan and present Bangladesh was 18. In 1969, Tangail Mahukuma of Mymensingh district was upgraded to a district. Patuakhali Mahukuma was first upgraded to a district in independent Bangladesh.

Administrator

There are many government officials in every district. However, the deputy commissioner or deputy commissioner is considered the chief government representative of the district. He is responsible for the district's chief secretary and cabinet division. The Deputy Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner is administratively responsible to the above-mentioned Divisional Commissioner. [1]
Council
District council was formed with a chairman, fifteen members and female members of five reserved seats, who were elected by the election of elected representatives. But the MP can not vote. [2]
