Khulna Railway Station
Khulna railway station or the Khulna station is the main city and the headquarters of Khulna division and the main railway station of Khulna, the country's third largest metropolitan area, in the south-western part of Bangladesh. The railway station is connected with Jessore City by Jessore-Khulna Rail Link. From the Khulna station, the railways operate in different cities of Bangladesh. In the past Khulna city was connected to Kolkata by the Khulna Railway Station, then the largest metropolis of Bengal. From this station, the railway service with Kolkata was closed in 1956. The station provides inter-city rail services in Khulna city.
History
Khulna railway station was built in British India. The station was the marginal station of Sealdah-Jessore-Khulna railway track. This railway was run by Barisal Express from Sealdah to Khulna, Bhaya via Petrapole-Benapole. In 1956, the movement of the Indo-Pak war was stopped from Khulna to Calcutta.
